There are plenty of things to assess when preparing to breed your horse. You have stallion choices, veterinary costs, reproductive options, and much more! Take a look at our tips that will help you better prepare your mare for breeding season.

Before you start breeding, it is important to make sure your mare’s general health is as good as it can be. To do this you should arrange for all routine care to be done. Assess your mare’s body weight and make sure she is not too heavy. You also want to plan carefully with your equine veterinarian, along with taking precautions such as a breeding soundness exam and swabs prior to breeding. This will help provide the best opportunity to conceive and have a live, healthy foal next year.
